Our Story...
A successful educator and entrepreneur received a vision of expanding her tutoring service to meet the personal and social needs of children. In 2004, "Coach Kelley" and her husband (an Athletic Coach & Social Service Professional) began the concept of “Youth Angel Scholars” as a scholarship fund in memory of their first child to help ASK For Tutoring LLC middle and secondary members attend educational symposiums or college tours for free. In 2010, they decided to "transform" the scholarship fund into a non profit organization. The vision for this new organization first began with a focus directly on teens using a holistic approach to mentoring. The authentic program was shared with a group of colleagues, and in 2010, both the Youth Angel Scholars Incorporated and Teen Transformation Program were established.
The Teen Transformation Program (T.T.P.) was originally held at Temple University's Center City Campus in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The program highlighted the importance of transforming teens through their engagement in year round specialized academy workshops, civic engagement, overnight retreats, seminars, and field trips. Upon completion of the T.T.P, scholars were inducted into the Youth Angel Scholar Society through a special ceremony and received awards, scholarships, or stipends to pursue their educational or entrepreneurial goals.
In 2016, Youth Angel Scholars had an organizational "transformation" by changing its host site location and admitting a younger generation to the program from the City of Philadelphia and surrounding counties. This gave birth to a NEW Youth Angel Scholar generation of "Achievers" (Grades K-3) "Innovators" (Grades 4-6) and "Leaders" (Grades 6-8.) Scholars now have the opportunity to transform in our Summer Academy (June - August) and After School Club (September - May.) Our final change was installing YASA (Youth Angel Scholars Ambassadors) an exclusive transformative internship opportunity for rising high school seniors and college students pursuing education during different phases of the program each year.
The organization has directly transformed the lives of youth from all walks of life. Our Youth Angel Scholar alumni are change agents, study globally, are Gates Millennium Scholars, entrepreneurs, and undergraduate students at colleges and universities nationwide. In February 2014, Youth Angel Scholars Incorporated was highlighted and recognized as Philadelphia's first Harvey Heroes on the nationally syndicated NBC Steve Harvey Talk Show, along with a $10,000 endorsement from Strayer University. Youth Angel Scholars Incorporated has also been featured on WDAS 105.3 FM, WURD 900AM, The Scholar publication of Strayer University and a eight year recipient of the Support Community Outreach Program grant from the City of Philadelphia.
Youth Angel Scholars is fiscally sponsored by a collaborative partnership with Community Solutions Educational Services, a 501c3 non profit organization.
